Adelaide-based entrepreneur Glen Vollebregt worked for three major  universities, headed up a national not-for-profit organisation, and built two successful businesses, all before his 30th birthday.

Vollebregt’s professional career began teaching hundreds of international students through several university courses at UniSA and the University of Adelaide, as well as at their trans-national partner institutions in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

After then working in the international and domestic recruitment offices of the three major South Australian universities, Vollebregt left a promising career to run national not-for- profit organisation, Brightest Young Minds, at just 25 years of age.

Here he taught other bright young minds how to launch their own profit-for-purpose social ventures, before leaving to follow his own entrepreneurial ambitions.

Vollebregt launched student accommodation provider, Student Rooms, in 2010, and the business quickly emerged as a market leader. It was recongised as one of the 50 fastest growing start-ups in Australia at the 2013 StartupSmart Awards, and named one of Australia’s most innovative companies in the 2013 Anthill Magazine ‘SMART 100’ Index.

Vollebregt is passionate about quality student accommodation experiences and founded the state’s first professional body – the South Australian Student Accommodation Association – SASAA. Vollebregt is the current SASAA Secretary and works closely with state government to inform on best practice tenancy and planning regulation.

But the story doesn’t end there. Vollebregt recently founded property development firm Barrio  Developments, and  has  quickly  built the  company’s  project pipeline  to around $200M including several purpose built student accommodation projects

Vollebregt is passionate about sharing his entrepreneurial know-how with the next generation of South Australian start-ups as the state continues to assert itself as a centre of innovation.

He is equally passionate about the provision of quality education and affiliated services and has been a driving force of the proposed South Australian Student Accommodation Association (SASAA).

Our Second Speaker Sue Owens

Sue moved to Adelaide in 2005, leaving Canberra, family and her well paid Commonwealth Public Service job of some 26 years to become more involved and immersed in all things property related.

Sue possesses a wealth of knowledge, skill and expertise at finding profitable deals and managing them to successful conclusions.

Sue Owen has been investing in property for approximately 25 years.  A premium member of the initial Results Program and involved in the Results Program until mid-2012 and learning from people such as:

  • Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad Poor Dad),
  • John Burley,
  • Steve McKnight (Best Selling Author and founder of  Propertyinvesting.com)
  • Brendan Kelly (Author and Head Coach at Results Mentoring Solutions),

Sue featured in Steve McKnight’s 2nd edition of Steve’s book 0-130 Properties in 3.5 Years.

Sue’s property investing journey to-date has included

  • Developing properties including subdividing and building multiple dwellings
  • Building on challenging sites
  • Conversion of single-let properties to boarding houses
  • Involvement in property projects as a money partner
  • Renovating properties on a consulting and hands on basis
  • Coaching property investors
  • Developing property investing products as well as providing training sessions on those products
  • Managing local properties, both single-let and multi-let (boarding houses)

Sue is passionate about property, managing property, property investing and helping others succeed in their property related goals. Sue values highly ethical dealings in property investing, interactions with people and life in general. Sue has also led and spoken at local property investing networking groups.
